Baby It's Cold Outside, so read the warning label on your track tyre!
Got new tyres in the post from us? Brilliant!
See the sticky labels on them..... the usual one saying what tyre it is and what size it is, very useful.
Another label from the supplier warehouse from when they shipped them to us, never mind that, take it off n throw it away...
.... and hang on ... there's a TECHNICAL ADVICE label on these tyres....... throw that away too.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Read that label, please for the love of Terry's Chocolate Oranages please do read that label!
Some tyres really don't like the cold and carry an extra warning label which is vital, ignoring it could cost you £100s of pounds.
In brief the label will tell you.....
- Store those tyres at 5°C or above.
- Treat the tyres extra carefully when below 5°C
- Ensure before attempting to fit the tyres, keep them somewhere warm, at least 20°C for TWENTY FOUR HOURS
Tyres with a higher carbon content (fast road or track tyres) simply don't like the cold. They lose their flexibility and can crack or tear and this is not covered by any guarantee, not from the supplier or manufacturer.
It's the same if you buy a tub of ice cream and store it on top of a radiator... Tescos are not going to refund you for a tub of goop!
Please do read that label, and do follow those instructions. Don't try and short cut it by thinking 20 degrees for an hour is long enough, it could cost you 100's of pounds.
