Dunlop Trailmax Raid .. a 60/50 tyre? That doesn't add up Ian, are you crazy?

Dunlop Trailmax Raid .. a 60/50 tyre? That doesn't add up Ian, are you crazy?

Off road tyres, 50/50 .... 60/40... 70/30 ... 90/10 etc etc

Those off road / on road ratings can be a bit vague, and perhaps to be viewed as a guideline only. One company's 50/50 may be classed as a 60/40 by a different manufacturer.

I've called the Dunlop Trailmax Raid a 60/50 tyre ... and that just doesn't make sense... but much of what I say doesn't make sense at face value, let's explore this.

In reality, it's a 50/50 tyre... equally happy on the road as it is off the road, but I'm giving it a bonus road score because rival 50/50 tyres aren't as road happy.

The Raid gives you the blocks and patterns you need to fight the terrain, but the round profile and overlapping blocks make it smoother on the road.

Yes, there will be a bit of a humming noise on tarmac, it's inevitable with aggressive off roading tyres, but the ride will be just a bit nicer.

I've said before that we handle a lot of tyres here, and sometimes a tyre will 'feel right' .. and the Raid does feel just that.

Dunlop are rightfully very proud of their newest creation, and we can see why. Some of the older Trailmax products were a bit heavy and leaden, the Raid feels lighter and yet just as tough.

And just loooooook at it! Look at those superb treads, they'll either make your bike look awesome bouncing over harsh terrain, or it'll make it look super cool parked outside Starbucks. Or both, because sometimes you can have the best of both worlds.
