Ridin Dirty... and Very Wet -The Metzeler Karoo 4

A Huge Thank You to Metzeler!

I had the fantastic opportunity to test the Metzeler Karoo 4 once again, and what an experience it was! In March, I was lucky enough to be taken to Portugal to put these tyres through their paces both on and off-road. Spoiler alert—they are absolutely fantastic!

At the start of the day, we set off on the road, and for the first 10 minutes, I was getting used to the bike (BMW GS1300), riding on knobbly tyres, and being on the 'wrong' side of the road. I took the first corner a bit gingerly, but after that, I was as happy as Larry. The tyres felt so natural to ride on that I almost forgot they were off-road 50/50 tyres.

Tyre Noise: You often hear a lot about the rumble of these tyres, but personally, I couldn't hear them over the purr of the GS boxer engine and my own happy noises as I rode over the Algarve.

Off Road: Let me start by saying, I may not be the best off-roader in the world, but I absolutely love it! If it involves getting dirty, count me in!

The tyres gripped incredibly well on all terrains, ripping through rocks effortlessly to get the GS up hills. The views were breathtaking as we rode across mountain tops and crossed small streams with algae-covered rocks hidden beneath the water. The GS handled it all as if it was an everyday occurrence.

Rain: Oh, the rain! I don't think I've ever been so drenched in my life. It came hammering down halfway through the day, turning our adventure into a soggy escapade. But the Karoo 4's continued to perform exceptionally, climbing up hills as if it was nothing and guiding us back down, following the newly formed streams of water. Back on the blind, twisty, soaked roads, the tyres stuck to the ground like glue around every corner. It took me by surprise how far I could push these tyres in the rain. They felt like sports touring tyres, giving me the confidence to push on through the rain, having the best time ever.
