I've worked in various mail order companies along the way, and the list of courier companies I've worked with is as follows:
Now and again we will get a message saying 'Your courier company is rubbish, I don't know why you use them!!'
And here is a list of the courier companies that have been mentioned in such a message:
So they're all rubbish then. The end.
Nah I can't leave it like that, I'm going to stand up for the brave men and women who go out there day in, day out, in their large transit vans or in their own cars (sometimes with an adorable German Shepherd looking out of the back window)
Let's defend these people! Let's defend......... most of these people!
We currently send parcels with APC, DHL and DPD.... and on the whole they are all excellent.
The VAST majority of deliveries are made on time and to the right place.
But... that's quite at odds with the statement THEY'RE ALL RUBBISH MATE!
I can't break things down into actual figures, but quite often an angry customer means one of the following.
But it's also true that courier do mess up occasionally.
Most drivers are competent and motivated and are doing their best.
On rare occasions you get a bad driver and a customer is prefectly correct in pointing out their poor performance, but that doesn't mean that DPD are rubbish, it doesnt mean that DHL are incompetent... it doesnt mean that APC won't sack terrible workers.
So tell me APC are rubbish, they'll sack that driver maybe. They'll apply to DHL next week and by Christmas they'll be deliverying for Yodel.
Some bonus content courier gripes!
I've no idea where my parcel is - We sent you tracking information, you can check, or we can check for you.
They've left my parcel with a neighbour but it doesn't say where! - It does say where, on the tracking screen. (Mostly)
It says CARDED on the tracking but I've not had a card! - Oh now this one is annoying. The phrase carded has evolved, as language does. It used to mean 'No one was home so I left a card', but with the electronic devices they use now and since the reduction of physical interaction during Covid it now simply means 'No one was home so I pressed a button on my scanner'
I was home ALL DAY ... NO ONE tried to deliver and I have Ring cameras and CCTV - The courier took a photo of your front door to prove they tried to deliver and have GPS proof they were on your doorstep.
Oh ... well I did pop out for 5 minutes.
The courier THREW my parcel over a 6 foot gate! - I'm so glad I work for a tyre company, not a vase company!
